Welcome to Western Isles Geocaching

This website was inspired by the geocaching team Claxons who came to the Isle of Lewis in March 2014 in order to complete a geocaching challenge called Scotland The Quest which involved finding caches in all 32 council areas in Scotland. They had come to Lewis specifically to find the Western Isles cache that I had placed as part of the challenge and they picked up a few of my other caches whilst here. Obviously the Scotland The Quest Challenge had encouraged Claxons to come geocaching on the Isle of Lewis and I began to wonder what other ways geocachers could be encouraged to come to these beautiful islands.

There are two ways to get geocachers onto the Calmac ferries – one is to give them lots of caches to find and the other is to give lots of information. Hopefully this website will do the latter and help achieve the former by encouraging local geocachers to get out there and place more caches.

If you have any comments or suggestions or questions leave them here or on any of the pages that refer to individual caches, someone will see them and respond.

I’ve no idea how useful this website might be but it has been fun putting it together and I’ve discovered many fascinating facts about geocaching in these remote and beautiful islands.

Happy geocaching!

By the way Claxons went on to be the first to complete Scotland The Quest. A fine achievement indeed!
